The downtown business district of Oak Park and River Forest creates a vibe, a community, multicultural and inclusive environment like few others in the United States. Turn of the 19th century charm abounds throughout the streets. It is a warm and friendly village with parks and recreational areas placed strategically throughout the homes so that all the residents enjoy numerous activities ranging from outdoor plays and concerts to soccer and baseball for the children – always just a short walk or bike ride away.

The Villages are “people centered”. The streets have bike paths, there are nature trails in the parks, two public swimming pools, an Olympic style ice-skating/roller-skating rink, a conservatory, a number of breweries, wineries, coffee shops and boutique businesses, and nearly 100 restaurants providing a wide variety of food, entertainment, and meeting places.

The population of the villages is around 62,000 people. There are over 14,000 condominiums and 10,000 homes to choose from with a wide variety of turn-of-the-century architecture, some iconic. Village planning centered around “walkability” with parks, multiple business districts, and easy access to public transportation to the city (two CTA trains and two Metra trains).
